Are You That Angry Person?

Don't put the wholeness of your identity into the smallness of a situation.

Have you ever found yourself caught up in a situation and you kind of loose yourself so to speak. It could be a stressful time that you are going through and somehow your identity morphs into the situation and you become someone you don't recognize?

I heard this statement on the radio a while back and I was reflecting on how easy you can take on a circumstance and become associated with it so much so that you acquire an identity. There are people we know that we associate with anger, bitterness, entitlement, self pity etc and they are usually people we don't want to be around. They are 'Debby downers' because they have somehow over time become wrapped up in a situation or circumstance.

Walking in fear verses Stepping out in Faith

Have you ever wanted a change that would drastically change things in your life? And has this desire for change been so bad that you make decisions that are not prudent because you just want out or in so bad? That's where I find myself today and I have been wrestling with myself for long. My fear for the unknown causing me to want to make decisions that could have a lasting adverse effect on the trajectory of my life.

A few days ago I reached a place where I just wanted to be out of a situation. I didn't care how, I just wanted to be out. I talked to a co-worker of mine about it and she was quick to point out the error in my thought process and for that I will be eternally grateful. It's always helpful when you have people who are not in your muck of things that can take an objective look and tell you to quickly hit the pause button before you make bad choices.

Is the Japan Rail Pass Worth It?

The answer is a resounding yes if you plan to visit different cities in Japan. If you are thinking of traveling to Kyoto from Tokyo and back just that round trip will cost you about $272. So you figure buying the seven day ordinary rail pass from between $270-$300 upfront will save you a lot of money.

I'll give you a breakdown of cost for our one week itinerary in Japan. Please note that this is just for the long hauls for day trips to Nara, Miyajima, Arayashiyama, Nikko and Tori we did not have to pay. We just showed our pass and they let us through. We did have to pay for inner city buses but it wasn't expensive especially for Kyoto where we got a day pass which saved us money also.

Four Day Weekend Getaway To Mexico

Have you ever needed a break from life? Like you needed to literally step out of your life and go somewhere different for a few days. Well that's exactly what we did. I had some miles on my card and I called the boyfriend on a particularly long day at work and said, "Can you get Friday and Monday off?" He said yes and the rest is history.

I booked a flight out to Cancun using my miles and then went on and found an all inclusive resort for the weekend. All inclusive is so hustle free and that's what I needed for this trip. I didn't go to sight see or any of that touristy stuff. I wanted a weekend that I could relax and be waited on hand and foot and that is exactly what we got.

We stayed at the Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya. The people there were AMAzing I mean we had a great time. I just needed to raise my glass up and I had a fresh one in my hand. If you have ever done an all inclusive you know that it's easy to get spoiled. The resort is very well maintained and the facilities are great. If we were not at the pool, we were sleeping off the buzz in our room. Just what we needed.

The resort had various restaurants so depending on what you were in the mood for you went there. If you wanted to eat by the beach then you went to the restaurant at the beach. If you wanted fine dining then that's what you went for. Enough talking, I'll let the photos do the talking.

 Driving into the resort

Be Generous

Generosity is one of those things that is difficult to learn especially as an adult. We are not naturally inclined to be generous. Generous people are usually born that way. Have you ever seen a child playing with their toys. They usually don't want to share them instinctively. Usually after a while they do but it is not their first instinct. So trust me when I say that generosity is not easy.

However I think about things people have done for me whether it's my family or my friends and I thank God for how much of a blessing they have been. You see when people do things for you that have a lasting impact it become sort of like a gift that keeps giving. You are inspired to extend the same act of kindness to another person. If not inspired you feel some obligation to do the same because it has been done for you. To pay it forward so to speak.

The kindness of strangers makes me teary. I travel frequently and so I meet people from all walks of life. Their extension of themselves has a lasting impact. When someone you don't know takes time out of their day to help you or even spend a little time just talking to you they leave a lasting impression.

Really that is the goal for today. To be generous with our time and resources. To pour ourselves out to other people. The only way you leave a permanent mark in the world is when you share yourself with people. This may be donating your time in your community, donating your money in a cause that will help someone, donating something that you know someone somewhere will need. Generosity looks different for different people. However it has the capability of transforming and changing lives.

I hope you have a great day today. Smile at someone, that in itself is an act of generosity.

Be Patient

Patience is one of the hardest things to exercise especially in an era of instant gratification. We are a generation of everything instant. We sometimes don't even care about the quality of what we get as long as we get it. We sacrifice the best and settle for mediocre because we lack patience.

The challenge today is one that requires a certain level of maturity. If you have ever watched a toddler they will scream and rant because they want what they want now. They do not have the capacity yet to wait. To be still. There is a certain level of discipline that comes with patience. You show up everyday for what you want, you do the work and you make small strides in the direction you want.
Patience is a virtue that recognizes that the reward of the wait is greater than the agonizing time you have to put in, sometimes not knowing if the desired outcome is guaranteed. It is knowing that whatever you are nurturing, mentoring, working towards is worthwhile.
Nothing worthwhile comes easy. It requires patience, determination and hard work.

Be Healthy

Today's challenger is to promote your mental, physical and spiritual well being. In the 'Be Inspired' project the goal is to be a well rounded human being. To be intentional with every aspect of your life which includes taking care of your health.

Take care of your mental, physical and spiritual well being. Always listen to what your body is telling you. Are you sluggish, tired, sickly all the time? You need to start taking care of yourself.
Are you angry, temperamental, moody, depressed, anxious? Pause to find out why? Then do something about it.
Are you feeling uninspired? Do you need some spiritual uplifting? Then go find it.

Be Smart

by cybrain

Being smart with your time and money is so important. Time is precious because it is not a commodity you can recover or store up to use later. Once you lose it, it is gone. Reminds me of the 'use it or lose it' policy in many companies. If you don't use those vacation days you lose them. It's the same idea with time. If you don't use your time wisely you lose.

I say that money is vanity because you will never make enough and you will never really be satisfied. You will always want more. The illusion that you need money to be happy is one that we have to be careful not to 'buy' into. Certainly having no money is not something I am advocating for but learning to be happy with what you have is the key. This has been tough for me. I have had to learn how to leverage what I have to suit my purposes. Whether it is paying the bills, traveling, charity, whatever I need to spend my money on I have had to learn to use what I have in a wise way to enjoy life to the maximum without stressing myself.

I recently read the book, 'tuesdays with Morrie' and I remember this line, "We put our values in the wrong things. And it leads to very disillusioned lives." Learn to value your time and using it to get the best out of life. Spend time with the people who matter. Invest your time in them and make a lifetime of memories. Learn to use money that you have. Stop using money you haven't earned chasing things you don't need and spending all your time working to pay for them. Do you see a vicious cycle here? You spend your whole life working to pay for things you don't need meaning you never make enough money. So you use your time doing something you probably don't enjoy to make money that you don't get to keep anyway so you don't even really enjoy it.

Be Fair

I think it is easy to forget to see people for who they are. To really look at someone and really see them. Sometimes we have misconceptions of people. We form opinions about people before we even get to know them. Remember the expression about 'walking a mile in my shoes before you judge me'. It fits in today's challenge. It is so important to see a person for their journey. We may not understand it but it really is not up to us.

Often I have a preconceived notion of who a person is. I look at them and immediately judge them not really knowing what their story is. Most of the time my rush unfounded opinion of who they are has been completely off. When I travel I meet people who throw me off completely. The way they dress, the way they carry themselves causes me to categorize them and immediately group them in a certain 'box' so to speak. Only to talk to them and find that fundamentally we are so similar. We have the same issues, we like or dislike the same things and yet looking at us we couldn't be more different.

On the other hand with my family and friends I am too critical. I have expectations and don't you dare let me down! Who made me the queen of expectations? When did I create this imaginary bar that they have to pass? It causes unnecessary friction because if we fail to understand one another, to be fair then there is no harmony.

Lastly I think it's hard to be fair to ourselves. To put yourself first. To pick you. To prioritize yourself. We give to others but we never give to ourselves. Start choosing you. Strike a balance.

Be Aware

On day 4 we are in quest of awareness. The questions require some reflection on our part. As we ask ourselves these difficult questions if we truly pause to answer them candidly I have a feeling we will be motivated to shake things up. I am encouraged to use these questions to push myself to better and greater things. Hopefully to more meaningful relationships, more engaging conversations, more fulfilling careers among other things. To do things that will lead me to become the person I have always thought I was. Usually self reflection reveals things about ourselves that we don't like or are even aware we had become.

I would like to really live fully and to truly be happy. To experience joy. I don't think many people if they were asked would say that they were joyful.

Be Honest

On day 3 I am reminded to be honest with myself and with others. To take a critical look at my life. To remove the blinders we often put in our lives. To ignore the perfect representations of our lives that we put out on social media. In essence to face the reality of our imperfect lives. Take this time to have conversations that should have been had years ago. Take this time to rekindle relationships that have gone stale because the issues have long been ignored and swept under the rag. Take this time to deal with underlying resentment. Take time to be honest and to rebuild from the ground up.

Speak truth always. Act with integrity always. Be confident that you can be fully depended on to always represent an honest, biased or unbiased truth. Stand firmly in your truth.

Be Humble

On day 2 of the Be Inspired Project we are encouraged to be humble. To take a step back and see things from a different perspective. There are factors that have led us to where we are. Some may tempt us to take on a posture of pride. To think that the accomplishments we have made have been a solo effort. While this may be true for some folks, it is rarely the case. Often we have a support system. It may be small or it may be big but make no mistake they contributed to our success in one way or the other.

So today be humbled by this process and celebrate your victories. See each achievement for the blood and sweat it took to get there. Be proud of yourself but always remember to do so with humility.

Be Inspired Project

I love the month of September and every year I promise myself (with so much optimism) that it is going to be the beginning of the best year of my life. If you haven't already guessed September is my birthday month. Insert a small scream YAY!!! Honestly some years the months have just rolled into each other. Some years have been great and some not so great. BUT I am alive and therefore the possibilities are endless.

As I get older this year I am embracing a different type of celebration where I focus not so much on the 'party' itself but on my growth as a human being, as a woman, as a daughter, as a sister, as a colleague, as a christian, and all the different things I can be identified with. I decided to do a project for 30 days in September.

The project or challenge is to post a quote/phrase that hopefully will inspire me and you as well to be better. Hopefully to be more conscious and to make intentional decisions. So here we go with the first challenge. As always thank you for reading.

Listening is loving...

There is no perfect faith. There is perfect love.

There is no perfect faith. There is perfect love. The more I delve into the word of God the humbler (I'm not sure this is a word : )) I get. My spirit is constantly convicted and I am reminded to have a contrite spirit. Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. You see friends if we were perfect we wouldn't need saving. We wouldn't need forgiveness. We would be perfect people in a perfect world where everyone would get along and life would be for lack of a better word perfect.

But we all know that the opposite is true. We live in a world filled with hatred, anger, sexual immorality, jealousy, pride and every evil thing you can think of. So the need for a savior is always there. I find it funny when 'church' folk are so quick to call out 'sinful' people and to condemn them. It is such a pretentious disposition because our natural inclination is to sin. Remember how Paul struggled with this and he puts it so well:

A Break Up Is A Series Of Events-Actions-Moments-Words...

Break ups do not happen overnight. I think the act of breaking up with someone happens over a
series of event, moments, actions or exchanged words... No one just breaks up to break up unless there is an issue of immaturity. Whatever the reasons or causes the act of breaking up should never be a surprise.

Endings are sad but when they are mean't to happen they are inevitable. There is a saying in my country that you cannot decorate a pig it will still get dirty. I don't mean that anyone is a pig in this instance haha I just mean that if something has a natural tendency towards being a certain way no matter how much you work to make it not so, it will always revert back to its nature. So when you realize that there are deal breakers in a relationship and you voice them and nothing happens or changes then you know in your gut that an ending is inevitable. If you or your partner are not willing to change/compromise then you are better of on your separate ways.

Japan 10 Day Itinerary On a Budget! Yes It Is Possible!

Planning for Japan is daunting. The language barrier and the numerous blogs all saying that Japan is expensive made it even more of a challenge for me to make sure I planned a good vacation that we would enjoy and that would remain affordable.

A few of my friends have asked me Japan? Why? The culture in Japan and the juxtapose between the new and the old makes it such an attractive destination. As usual I started doing my research and now I cannot wait to go (look at the photos I saw on various sites and understand why I want to go). I don't have a lot of vacation time to spare so I will try to squeeze as much as I can into this trip.

As seen on

Travel expenses so far are $1,887.24 which includes flights, train passes and accommodation.

I was seating on the train today commuting to work, usually this is my 'catch up' time. Catch up on my reading, emails, messages, sleep, meditation etc It is my 'me' time. Today I felt drained, bone tired, weary kind of drained. I didn't want to go to work but it is an obligation and the bills don't pay themselves sigh!

I digress but it occurred to me that I needed to rest. I needed to be still preferably in my home, in my bed or on my couch. No calls, no messages, no visits, no social media just me and a book and maybe some TV. Does this happen to you friends? Do you ever feel incredibly tired and in need of a break?

Castle Cove beach by loop-oh

It's been a tough year at work, working crazy hours so I know where the source of some of my weariness is. I often say God has a funny sense of humor and I am not kidding. As I was lamenting and marinating in my unease I read these two verses,
Ecclesiastes 2: 18 I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me. 19 And who knows whether that person will be wise or foolish? Yet they will have control over all the fruit of my toil into which I have poured my effort and skill under the sun. This too is meaningless.

Spoken For

I have always associated this phrase "spoken for" with my relationship with God. My heart is spoken for. Above all else my soul is spoken for. This relationship is the one constant in my life.

Anyways that is not the point of this post. This phrase "spoken for" got me thinking about relationships. Am I spoken for? What does it mean to be spoken for in a relationship setting? What does it look like?

To be spoken for implies the relinquishing of a very personal thing. The act of speaking for yourself. It also implies implicit trust where you expect that when someone "speaks" for you, they will not violate that trust. That they will respect you and whatever you stand for. You would also expect that whatever they say or portray out there is a representation of a unit.

A Week in Bali - Day 1

First up is Ubud. You cannot got to Bali and not go to Ubud. This is where you will experience the real Bali. Even after the book "Eat, Pray and Love" Ubud still remains unspoiled.
We stayed at The Sankara Ubud Resort and Spa. We spend three days here and used it as a base for the various places we went to.

Bali Travel Guide

Traveling has become an all time favorite thing for me to do. When I'm not super busy I'm usually scouting out the next destination. I always get asked 'how do you afford it?' The answer is simple. It is a priority in my life right now so I find ways to afford it.

I heard someone say that all their life they saved for a rainy day and then one day they woke up and thought "What am I doing with my life?" "What interesting thing have I done lately?" Traveling changes you and so she started to travel and one day she realized that the rainy day had never come. That she was able to do the things she loved and still managed to put something away for that rainy day because you never know. So stop waiting for your rainy day and start living.

The Still Small Voice Kind of Faith

Today as I was reading my bible I came across the first miracle ever in the book of Acts chapter 3 and I paused realizing that I have become a cynical Christian without even realizing it. Not a non believer but one who has seen life and the harshness reality brings with it. Sometimes the miracle doesn't come the way we expect it so I have become an 'experienced' Christian not quite starry eyed.

Day 2 of the Fitness Challenge.

Month 1 of The Body Project -  Getting Fit, Toned & Loving Our Bodies

Following up with yesterday's workout let's get on the treadmill with this fun incline workout. I would recommend not holding the bars and reducing the speed if necessary to get a nice workout in and some serious sweating. Think of sweat as fat cells melting : ). I think of incline walking like mountain climbing so go slow but work your legs and your core by not holding on to the bars.

If you do not have access to a treadmill take a walk for 40 minutes and be sure to maintain a pace that causes you to break a sweat.

Make sure you eat well, get 6-8 hours of sleep and drink plenty of water remember the 80% 20% rule. Follow me on instagram @shiruyoga and each week take a photo and/or weigh in to have a tracker for your progress. You can post photos and tag #eatworkwin, #fitnesschallenge #mybodymygoals.

Fun Workout - Loose Weight, Break A Sweat and Enjoy Yourself

Month 1 of The Body Project -  Getting Fit, Toned & Loving Our Bodies
Hey guys I decided to do a fitness challenge to see if I can achieve my body goals. I know it's a little late if you are trying to get that summer body but hey a great body is for life so might as well start now.

The goal here is to loose some weight, tone up, get fit and mostly to love the bodies we are in. So if you are interested please follow along for the first month which is June and let's see if we can improve together. I don't want to make this into one of those grueling challenges. I want to enjoy working out and seeing results. As a disclosure I am not a fitness expert by any means, I'm just a girl trying to get fit.

Make sure you eat well, get 7-8 hours of sleep and drink plenty of water remember the 80% 20% rule. Follow me on instagram @shiruyoga and each week take a photo and/or weigh in to have a tracker for your progress. You can post photos and tag #eatworkwin, #fitnesschallenge.

God Cannot Guide A Parked Car

I recently saw this quote somewhere can't remember where but it got me thinking. "God cannot guide a parked car".

Lately I have been feeling like I have not been living up to my full potential. I feel like I could do more with my time, my brain, my life in general. I think about money and if I am making enough to set myself up for a nice future. I think about my relationships and whether they are healthy. I think about my faith and question my growth and impact on other people. I think about my job and whether this is where I want to be. Basically the question at the back of my mind is am I doing enough?

God's Promises Final

Today is the conclusion of the promise series that hopefully has been a blessing to you as much as it has been to me. In many ways the numerous promises of God can be a prayer where you speak all these promises into your life. This series is a reminder for us to claim the promises of God for ourselves.

Sunflower Field by skyseeker

I would like to post some verses from the book of Deuteronomy 28 that we can all apply in our lives as a way speaking and essentially claiming these promises. When you think of a promise as an unpaid debt then it easy for us to go before God to ask that He fulfills his promise to you.

God's Promises III

Today I wanted to remind us of a simple promise that carries so much weight. It reminds me of a safe place/space where we can go and just be. No judgement just acceptance.
Matthew 11:28 says “Come to me,
all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.

I usually like to pause and just think about what I am reading especially when it comes to scripture. Over time if you have been reading the bible for a long time the words of popular verses like this will roll right off you before you can wrap them around your heart and appreciate them. So please read this verse and mellow a little in this promise.

Horizon on Fire by Peter Zoon

God's Promises II

So yesterday we touched on one of God's promises and I wanted to continue with this theme today. As the sun starts to shine longer and the days are getting warmer my heart can't help but feel light. Even my step feels lighter which is kind of a sedge-way into today's post.

In Hosea 6 we see a promise in the midst of so much turmoil in Israel. The people of Israel had drawn far from God and yet even in all this we see God's compassion for us as he makes today's promise in verse 3. It says;
Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.

Sunrise by Rod Waddington

There is an invitation here to acknowledge God in the literal sense, to turn to him. It's an invitation to draw near to God and to find out who He is. To have our eyes be opened in revelation of who he is. I often find that when things are either good or bad (it's always extremes with me : ) ) I draw far from God. It's like I forget where my sustenance comes from when I am overwhelmed by life.

God's Promises I

Hi friends, I hope you are doing well and that everything is well with you. I have been thinking about the promises of God and how we can apply them to our lives daily. Our God is so personal and when we seek Him it becomes so evident how interested He is in us. There is no such thing as coincidence when it comes to God. If you seek you will find Him in the oddest and most wonderful ways.

Winter Sunrise by Ryan McGuire

So anyways the promises. In the book of Isaiah we see this beautiful passage that has so many promises in it, it takes my breath away.
Isaiah 40:29-31 says He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.

Stair Master Workout - Burn Fat Fast!

Hey guys, I hope you are all doing well this fine Thursday. I'd like to switch it up a bit and post about a workout I did today that was awesome. When I say awesome I mean sweaty, heavy breathing and happy hot mess. It's a stair master workout that will leave you feeling great and will also ensure you burn calories long after you finish the workout. HIIT workouts are great like that.

Anyways without further ado try this workout and let me know if you feel the burrrrn!!!. This workout was inspired by Tone It Up but I modified it to suit myself. Always listen to your body and do what is right for you.

Be The Person, The Person You Are Looking For, Is Looking For

Be the person, the person you are looking for, is looking for.

Andy Stanley has often said this to singles and boy is it true. You cant be looking for a king while you act or behave like common folk so to speak. If you are looking for a generous, kind, spiritual, intelligent, mature person you can't be less than those things. You must meet the expectations that you impose on a potential suitor.

Bokehlicious at Nell’s Park by 55Lanley69

This then brings us to the question of whether or not you are ready for the person you are looking for. Often we have lists of the qualities of the people we want in our lives and often the qualities are set a bar so high that we ourselves don't even meet them. So how do you know you are ready for the person you are looking for.

Greece Travel Guide

Hi everyone. This is a simple post on how you can travel to Greece and the Greek Isles without breaking the Bank. Greece is perfect for honeymooners, travelers and people looking to party in Mykonos.

I always thought that this would be a honeymoon destination but seeing as we have not progressed to that  stage of our lives we decided to go anyways. Why? Because there is so much to see and with some planning you can afford to go anywhere without feeling the pressure and without having to travel as a backpacker. As I said here on traveling to Europe, I have nothing against backpackers but traveling with some additional comfort is a must for me.

If You Walk In The Footprints of Others You Won't Leave Your Own

I am sure by now we have all heard the phrase 'As you think so you are'. Now before you read further this is not some motivational post or a write up on self help. It's a post on self reflection about what we find ourselves preoccupied with. What are you constantly finding your mind veering to?

Grasslands by Ryan McGuire

It occurred to me the other day that a person's thoughts show their background, their upbringing, their priorities, their self awareness and their level of maturity. Have you ever heard someone talking and you were totally baffled by the words they were spewing out of their mouths? You couldn't identify with them at any level. Not is a snobby way but really when you consider their age and stage in life you can't connect the boxes between what they talk about and what you would ordinarily expect

Who Are You Taking For Granted?

Are you missing someone who is not around today? Are you thinking about getting something new and shiny? Basically is there anything you are thinking about that you would like to acquire or would like to be given back to you? Are you noticing what you have?

pyrolatry by Jenny Downing

When You Know, You Know

When you know, you know.

Have you ever heard someone say that, specifically about finding the person they will settle down with? They talk about it with some sense of euphoria like all the puzzles fit. I get jealous of people like that because it seems like some cosmic power is favoring them over the rest of us mere mortals.

We Are Not Born Hateful

I have never quite understood prejudice, racism, bigotry, tribalism or anything that has a connotation of hatred towards another person because they were different from you. You can dislike and certainly hate someone who has perpetrated a wrongful thing toward you but to hate someone you don't know because of one reason or the other, I just don't get.

How Do You Pray? Do You Ask & Not Receive?

Today I would like to start with these verses in Matthew 6:6-13 as we ask the question 'how do we pray?' The verses that struck me the most were 7 and 8.
And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him".

Growing up I always thought of the people who led prayers in church as the holy of hollies, these people had looong prayers. Prayers that would put even the most devoted person to sleep. Now I don't think they were hypocrites but their prayers were off putting. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying long prayers are necessarily bad but sometimes they defeat the purpose specifically if they alienate the people they are intended for.

Why Do You Pray?

Hi friends so last week was all about fasting this week is all about praying. Why do we pray, how do we pray and does prayer have any effect at all?

First why do you pray? Is it to ask for some need that you have to be fulfilled? What do your prayers look like? Are they focused solely on you? I ask these questions to spark some reflection on our part the next time we pray.

Lent & Intercession

Have you ever prayed on behalf of someone or asked someone to pray for you? To essentially stand in the gap for you? Why did you think that it would work? Why do we intercede for one another?

Scripture tells us that Jesus died so we can freely approach God. He eliminated the need to have another person go on our behalf but as I am sure we all know sometimes knowingly and unknowingly we need people to stand for us or with us.

Lent & Fasting

In the spirit of lent we are reminded to fast. In Joel we see this “Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning". Fasting over the years has evolved into giving up something whereas in the past it meant giving up food. It was an intentional way of seeking God with a sense of awareness you probably wouldn't have had if you did not lack something as essential as food.

During a fast the time designated for eating would be devoted to prayer, weeping to God to forgive us and perhaps mourning for what has been lost because of sin. The wages of sin is death and you don't have to die physically to experience loss. Every time you sin you harm yourself and/or others in the process. Sin does not bring forth life, it destroys and hence the analogy that the wages of sin is death.

Lent III

You turned back so what did you turn to?
After turning back from sin the call is to turn  to God and to walk in obedience. Turning from something will often require turning to something. Its a quid pro quo relationship sort of thing. You are giving up something to gain something.

In this instance I would wager we gain so much more by turning to God. Joel 2:13 and rend your hearts and not your garments.”Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.

Lent II

Lent and repentance go hand in hand don't you think? In Lent I we see the importance of Lent and how we should be intentional about it. The call to ask God for forgiveness especially during this season. Asking for forgiveness is a difficult task. It involves humility. It's recognizing and accepting that we are not perfect Christians. It's seeing ourselves from God's point of view. Now notice I didn't say our point of view or any other person's point of view.

Hi folks I hope you are having a good week so far. I'll get right to it this morning, how has your lent been going? Have you even thought about it? How does lent look like for you?

As a person who was brought up in the church lent has been sort of like a norm. Sort of like Christmas, which makes me sad. The season of lent is the foundation of our faith. The Crucifixion of Jesus is what its all about. Without redemption we would be lost and the likelihood of being found non-existent.

He Who Begun A Good Work Will Be Faithful To Complete It

I read a devotional a few weeks ago that I have been planning to share but just haven't gotten around to it. The writer of the devotion is Missy Fuller and this post is inspired by her thoughts. Below is a quote of what she wrote concerning the way God thinks of us.

"When things feel helpless and desperate, God has a plan. When we’re convinced our story is over, God is at work. When we’re exhausted and confused, God is sovereign. When one more horrible, unexplainable thing happens, God has a purpose. When we’ve truly lost all hope, God is bringing about His will".

"It's Not You" - Then What's The Problem?

What a week folks? I have been super busy at work and I am looking forward to a long weekend. Thank you Presidents day!!! It's super cold in Boston (sub-zero degree weather) and if you ain't got yourself a honey then you better get yourself some hot chocolate : ).

I don't have plans for this lovely weekend (pun intended) so I am staying in and enjoying a quiet weekend no valentine shenanigans. Although in one of my previous blogs I did state that its always nice to go out and enjoy yourself, sometimes you need some quiet time just as much. It's good for the soul : ).

You Are Not That Into Them

People think it takes a lot to know whether you are into someone or not but the thing is its not rocket science. It really isn't! There are some tell tale signs that make it obvious you either need to walk away or maybe down grade the relationship.

  1. The first thing is that stuff that should bother you doesn't. Has someone ever done something so foul but you don't find yourself mad or angry? You are pretty much indifferent. I mean you care but not enough. It's like you have an ignore button for them and things just don't get to you.

5 Things To Do On Valentines

Good morning everybody I hope you had a great weekend. I know I did! Superbowl 50 champs right here : ). Anyways as we get into a new week it occurred to me this morning that its valentines weekend.

I know some of you are probably rolling your eyes but hey I like valentines day, its an excuse to spend a ridiculous amount of money and to be pampered. I am all about that in the name of love of course haha. I also think that because people purposefully set this time apart, it gives couples an opportunity to reconnect, have good conversations and enjoy each others company at least more than they usually do (hopefully : ) ).
