We Are Filled To Be Emptied

Hey everybody how are you doing this cold morning? Sadly the summer is long gone and it's starting to get chilly out there. It reminds me of the seasons of our lives. As summer turns to fall and the leaves are falling it's a reminder that soon we'll start getting mountains of snow brrr!!!

Each season though has it's beauty. Summer is the season of barbecues and parties and just happiness all round. Then comes fall with its beautiful foliage and just a season of thanksgiving. I can't help but think each season prepares us for the next one. As thanksgiving turns to the holidays over Christmas and we get some of that dreaded snow.

Enough with the weather haha I'm sure you are wondering where I am going with this. There are certain times in our lives when we are just abounding in joy and happiness. When we don't have a care in the world and everything is just happy go lucky kind of like summer. Your job is going good, you are healthy and generally you have no complaints. You are fulfilled in every way. Just remember we are always filled to be emptied. Anything that goes up always comes down right.

So then comes the seasons when you just don't have it in you to do much. The energy is gone and you just feel worn down. You look around you and you cant help but notice that things aren't where they are supposed to be. Kinda like fall when things start dying, plants wither and the dark days are longer than the sunny days. In this season it's hard to remember how the sun feels when it shines.

In the seasons when you are so happy, when your cup is full and life is just great that's when you should pinch yourself and remind yourself that a season is coming when that cup will need to emptied. I feel so worn down sometimes and it's difficult to remember how it feels to be overflowing with blessings. These are the times when helping someone is just about the hardest thing to do because I feel drained. I find that in these season my temper is short and I do not have patience.

It's funny when I'm going through the motions so to speak, God feels like He is so far. My prayer life is just in the pits in these times. I don't meet many Christians who will admit that they haven't had a good conversation with God in ages. Sometimes it takes everything I have to get up and just praise because I am human. God did not send His son to die for a bunch of perfect Christians. He sent Him to die for moments like this. When all you can say during prayer is 'Word of God speak' because you have nothing in you.

Sometimes we all need to be reminded that the tough seasons are just that tough and we are not asked to be strong or to take courage by ourselves. Instead as Christians we go through this refining process where we come out better. In these times I encourage you to stay strong in the Lord. What does that look like? I think it looks like:

  • Praying even when you have nothing to say so you just listen (give someone other than yourself a chance to talk haha). Maybe you have been monopolizing your conversations with God and it's time to listen.
  • Trust the process. God is working in you. He who started a good work will be faithful to complete it.
  • Remember that you are filled to be emptied. Anyone who says or acts like they are full all the time is lying so be patient.
  • Lastly relax because it will be fine.
Listening is loving.....
